Damaged Rain Gutters You may not look up at the gutters on your home very often, but you should be appreciative of everything they do for your property. Gutters are designed to prevent water from pooling around the foundation of your home, which can cause damage to it over time. Every now and then, though, you will notice your gutters when you see that they don’t seem to be working properly. Here are some reasons why your gutters might not be working properly.

Your gutters or downspouts are clogged.

At least once or twice every year, you should get up on a ladder and clean leaves, sticks, dirt, and other gunk out of your gutters or hire someone to do it. This will ensure that water is able to flow through them without a problem. If you ever see water spilling out over the sides of your gutters, it likely means that your gutters or downspouts are clogged up and unable to move water away from your home.

Your gutters aren’t sloped enough.

Does it seem like water is just sitting in your gutters without going anywhere? This could be an indication that your gutters aren’t sloped enough. Gutters need to be sloped just slightly to encourage water to flow in the direction of your downspouts. If gutters aren’t sloped or, worse, if they’re sloped in the wrong direction, it can prevent your gutters from doing the job they’re supposed to do.

Your gutters are pulling away from your home.

Over time, it’s not uncommon for gutters to start to pull away from a home. When this occurs, water can work its way in between your roof and gutters and fall directly to the ground. You’ll need to have your gutters reattached to your home or replaced altogether to prevent this scenario from playing out.

Does there seem to be a problem with your gutters or your downspouts right now? Roofing by Bruce provides gutter and downspout repairs. We can also install new gutters, clean out gutters, and do gutter repitching. Call us at 570-424-8891 today to schedule gutter services.
