Health and Safety Risks

Now about those leaks… Ugh. You don’t want your roof to leak. Why is it leaking? It could be due to wind or storm damage. Maybe it’s a lack of maintenance. Or it was installed improperly. Whatever the case, a leaky roof can create a structural issue that can also lead to health and safety risks.

Mold and Mildew

A leaky roof can cause a mold and mildew problem in your house– and that’s stuff you don’t want to breathe in– it’s not good for your respiratory system. If you have someone in the house experiencing nasal problems such as congestion or asthma, you don’t want additional moisture coming into your home, causing mold problems. Meanwhile, a leaky roof can cause your utility bills to go up, since all that hot air inside your house during the winter is leaking out into the cold Pennsylvania sky! Leaks can also damage insulation so that it’s not doing its job.

Electrical Issues

Imagine this: rain or snow comes through the leak in your roof and interacts with your electrical system. A fire could start as a result– yikes! Stuff in your attic will get ruined either way (wet or burnt), and things like plaster and paint get damaged too.

Structural Issues

Leaky roofs can compromise structural integrity. Leaks can mess with rafters, ceiling joists, fascia boards and wall frames. Wood can rot. The roof can sag and/or cave in— not good, right?
